COUNTY News:
A week remains for ladies and gentlemen from all over Northern New Mexico, ages 6 and up, to register for the 2nd Annual Northern New Mexico Fair and Rodeo Court Competition at Los Alamos County.
This competition is a revamped program of the Los Alamos County Queens Court Competition, that will allow for a larger age bracket for participation, categories for males of all ages, and the removal of Los Alamos County resident requirement to compete. Categories are the following: Category Grade Level Jr. Sweetheart (Ages 6-9) Grades 1st-3rd Sweetheart (Ages 10-13) Grades 3rd-8th Princess / Prince (Ages 14-16) Grades 8th-11th Queen / King (Ages 17-25) Grades 12th-Sr. in College Mrs. / Mr. (Ages 26+).
Each contestant will give a formal speech before a panel of judges and compete in a horsemanship contest. Judging will be based on the following criteria: Horsemanship 20%; Interview and Personality 40%; Public speaking 40%.
The competition will begin at Brewer Arena for the riding portion, a candidate must furnish their own horse, however, the mount may be borrowed. Accommodations will be made for the Jr. Sweetheart category.
The competition will be held starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at Brewer Arena. After the riding section is complete the event will then move to Fuller Lodge for the speech and personality/interview section.
The registration deadline is 5 p.m. May 29, 2024. The registration form can be turned in person at the Larry R. Walkup Aquatic Center in Los Alamos or submitted via email to lacrec@lacnm.us.
