Dear Friends:

Sen. Anthony Thornton will be the honored guest speaker for our silent auction fundraiser on Oct. 18.  This will be a special evening to remember at Fiori E Sale. Tickets are $20/person and are available at this link.

Please mark your calendars for our Central Committee meeting 6 p.m. on Oct. 16 at Open Door Bible Church at 2101 Trinity Drive.

Finally! White Rock school board districts have an opportunity to elect conservatives to preserve our legacy of academic excellence. Please vote Stephanie Galvez for District 1 and Tammy Hinckley for District 2.

Many families choose to live in Los Alamos for the high quality of education. The recent LAPS decline in 11th grade math (from 45% to 38%) and science (from 71% to 62%) proficiency follows national and statewide trends. While high-achievers continue to do well, others are falling further and further behind. I agree with Superintendent Jennifer Guy that this decline is “unacceptable, alarming, and terrifying”, especially for a STEM community like ours.

We must build on what has worked well for many decades and implement effective solutions. Both candidates have experience with managing finances and budgets, a valuable asset for our school board, and are long-time residents of our amazing town.

All registered voters may vote for 3 candidates to serve on our UNM-LA Advisory Board. Please vote for only 1: Bryan Fearey to ensure UNM-LA is a best-in-class institution.

Here we go again! This past week, our County Council approved moving forward on a 5/8 percent Gross Receipts Tax increase, with Councilor Reagor opposed. This raises the cost of living for those on a fixed income and increases expenses for our fragile small businesses. The Los Alamos Business Coalition presented their findings to Council and highlighted many serious problems such as small businesses being overlooked in favor of large developers and out of town interests. The GRT increase disproportionately burdens small business owners over big corporations.

Councilor Havemann said that we have to raise taxes in order to have “nicer things, a thriving community, and more amenities.” What exactly are the nicer things that she is referring to? Without this tax increase, I know I will be able to buy the nicer things I want for myself, my family, and my business!

Just a decade ago, with a lower budget and taxes, we had better amenities and more options for shopping and dining. Marimac shopping center was full and brimming with economic activity. We had many things to do and enjoy in town.

Please email our County at CountyCouncil@lacnm.us ahead of the public hearing on Oct. 28, 2025.

See you soon,
