A Ruby-crowned Kinglet perches on the branch of a pinon tree recently lifting spirits in the backyard of a home on Barranca Mesa and all over Los Alamos. Kinglets are tiny songbirds with very small, thin, straight bills. They are olive-green birds with a prominent white eyering and white wingbar. The ‘ruby crown’ of the male is only occasionally visible. These are restless, acrobatic birds that move quickly through foliage, typically at lower and middle levels. Source: allaboutbirds.org.
