Ryan A. Roller of Los Alamos has been charged with false imprisonment, battery and battery against a household member as a result of a July 19 incident at an address on 39th Street.
Los Alamos Police Cpl. Gabriel Nieto was dispatched to the residence in response to a reported fight. Nieto’s statement of probable cause said he asked LAPD Dispatch if he was responding to Roller’s residence as he was familiar with the address from responding their multiple times in the past. Dispatch notified Nieto that Roller had left his residence in a red van and Nieto observed the vehicle heading south on Diamond Drive.
Nieto stopped Roller on Urban Street and asked him to turn off his vehicle and show his hands. As it was known to Nieto that Roller has an active conceal carry permit for a firearm, Nieto asked him if he had any weapons to which he responded, “no”.
Roller claimed he and a household member were arguing when a man came from behind and grabbed him. He said they started to fight but he was unsure who threw the first punch. Nieto observed Roller’s hand to have multiple cuts but Roller refused medical attention and said he probably got the cuts from “the other guy”. Roller denied putting his hands on the household member. Nieto placed Roller in investigative detention in the back of his patrol car.
Meanwhile, other officers on the scene questioned the other parties involved who allegedly reported seeing Roller grab one of the victims and push her against a car and prevent her from leaving. The other victim reportedly went to assist the female victim, which is when Roller allegedly hit him. Another witness reported seeing the female victim walking toward a car and Roller running after her, smashing her against a car, putting his arms around her and taking her keys.
Roller faces a preliminary hearing Aug. 24 before Los Alamos Magistrate Judge Pat Casados.
