Ryti: Response To Questioning County’s Priorities

Chair Randall Ryti
Los Alamos County Council

Robin Gurule,

On behalf of Council, I thank you for sharing your letter on County priorities. I did check with the County Manager on the Overlook Park restrooms. He indicated this is a fairly recent issue and a solution was being developed last week.

I copied Mr. Lynne on this reply if he has any other information on that problem. I checked with the Utility Manager Mr. Shelton on the sewer backup. He indicated that the DPU was working with County Open Space on restoration plans.

One of your points relates to plans to build new facilities when existing facilities or other infrastructure requires more attention. The tennis complex cost estimates were presented to PRB at their last meeting. No request has come to Council at this point for a substantially larger budget.

We do have a large backlog of deferred maintenance of recreation facilities and I suggested Council prioritize this work at the most recent budget hearings. Council decided to wait and receive the CSD survey that was completed over the summer before reallocating funding. I expect this will be considered as part of the 2024 County budget process.

I appreciate you taking the time to write this letter and please let me know if you would like to discuss any of your concerns or suggestions further.
