SALA News:

SALA Los Alamos Event Center announces the Oppenheimer Festival, an ambitious project that aims to transcend the traditional movie-watching experience and create a captivating journey into the life and legacy of J. Robert Oppenheimer.

This festival holds immense importance for Los Alamos, as it celebrates the town’s historical significance and the inspiration drawn from Oppenheimer’s presence during the making of the movie within the community.

Spanning Thursday, July 20 to Saturday, July 30, the Oppenheimer Festival promises to captivate audiences with a unique blend of entertainment and education. The centerpiece of the festival is the highly anticipated movie “Oppenheimer” by renowned director Christopher Nolan.

SALA has secured an exclusive advance screening of the movie, a day before its official release. This serves as a testament to the importance of Oppenheimer’s legacy to this community and allows SALA to host a grand event that honors his remarkable contributions.

During the festival, the movie will be shown three times a day for 10 days at SALA Los Alamos Event Center, providing ample opportunities for attendees to experience the film. In addition to the movie screenings, SALA has curated an innovative exhibit that spans from the lobby to the hall. Through the use of cutting-edge technology, including project mapping and AI integration, SALA will showcase an immersive experience that expands the boundaries of traditional exhibits. Working closely with the J. Robert Oppenheimer Memorial Committee and Los Alamos Historical Society, SALA aims to create an educational and engaging atmosphere that enriches their collective knowledge.

SALA also has announced that Compa is sponsoring four hours of daily screenings in the Roxy theater, where they will showcase a selection of documentaries related to Oppenheimer. This sponsorship enables SALA to offer these documentary screenings to the public for free, further enhancing the festival’s educational aspect. The schedule will be updated regularly, providing attendees with enriching opportunities to delve deeper into Oppenheimer’s world.

Furthermore, SALA has created a space in the Social theater for post-movie discussions, lectures and engaging conversations with the movie extras. This allows attendees to gain further insights and share their thoughts and experiences related to the film.

As part of these ambitious plans, SALA aims to remodel the Hill theater to remove the risers and transform it into a versatile space that accommodates artists, vendors and more exhibits. This space will be freely accessible to all attendees, allowing them to immerse themselves in the festival’s vibrant atmosphere.

Becoming a member of SALA is crucial to supporting the Oppenheimer Festival and ongoing renovations. Memberships not only help SALA financially, but also contribute to the continued growth and expansion of SALA, ensuring that they can bring more enriching experiences to the community.

“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our sponsor, Nuclear Care Partners, for their generous support of the Oppenheimer Festival. Their contribution allows us to fulfill our mission of creating a memorable and immersive event for all attendees,” SALA Owner Allan Saenz said. “We invite you to join us at the Oppenheimer Festival and be a part of this remarkable celebration of history, culture, and community. Together, let’s honor the legacy of J. Robert Oppenheimer and create an unforgettable experience for all who attend.”
