UNM-LA News:
The public is invited to hear San Ildefonso Pueblo Potter Barbara Gonzales speak at 10 a.m., Wednesday in the library at UNM-Los Alamos.
Gonzales, the great-granddaughter of Maria Martinez, is known for intricately carved red, black and polychrome bowls, inlaid coral and turquoise and her “good luck spider” motif.
She will talk about the historical aspects of her pottery, the ancestral lands on which Los Alamos is located and her life experiences. She also plans to demonstrate how she builds a pot.
Gonzales’s presentation is part of a celebration of Native American Heritage Month at UNM-LA.
