SFNF News:

SANTA FE — All Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) offices will be closed Thursday, Nov. 24, in observance of Thanksgiving Day.

Forest offices will resume regular business hours Friday, Nov. 25.

If you opt for cutting your own Christmas tree over a turkey trot or Black Friday deals, this is a reminder that Christmas tree permits can be purchased online at Recreation.gov and in person at your local district office, including the new Jemez Ranger Station, or at SFNF Headquarters during regular business hours. Christmas tree permits can also be purchased with cash or check only at Walatowa Visitor Center 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday through Sunday.

Whether you plan to grab a Christmas tree or recreate on the SFNF over the holidays, know before you go and “be outdoor safe.” Check the weather forecast and be prepared for winter conditions. Use good judgement and basic safety precautions.

Do not rely on cell phones for safety because you may not always have cell coverage in remote sections of the forest.
