Santa Fe National Forest Offices To Close MLK Day

SFNF News:

SANTA FE — All Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) offices will be closed Monday, Jan. 15, for the federal holiday in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

Regular business hours will resume Tuesday, Jan. 16.

Looking for ways to honor Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy? Observed on the third Monday of January each year, Martin Luther King, Jr. (MLK) Day is the only federal holiday designated as a National Day of Service. The National Day of Service celebrates the civil rights leader’s life and  legacy by encouraging all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities. Visit MLK Day  of Service for more information, including volunteer opportunities in your area.

The SFNF will waive fees at many day-use recreation sites Monday, Jan. 15. Since some recreation sites are closed for the winter, visitors are encouraged to check the status of sites online or contact the appropriate ranger district office ahead of time to determine which sites are open.

If you plan to visit the SFNF over the weekend, check the weather forecast, be prepared for winter weather conditions, and know before you go. Visit the Forest Service website to read more on national passes

Remaining fee-free days for 2024 are:

  • National Get Outdoors Day – June 8
  • Juneteenth – June 19
  • National Public Lands Day – Sept. 28
