Santa Fe Pro Musica Presents ‘A Conversation With Arnold Steinhardt’ At New Mexico Governor’s Mansion Jan. 22

SANTA FE — This January at the New Mexico Governor’s Mansion, Santa Fe Pro Musica will present a conversation with Arnold Steinhardt, founding member of the famed Guarneri String Quartet at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 22.

Also included in the evening will be a performance by artistic director and violinist Colin Jacobsen with pianist David Solem, with wine and hors d’oeuvres included.

Arnold Steinhardt was first violinist and a founding member of the internationally acclaimed Guarneri String Quartet (1964–2009) with which he made innumerable tours across the globe and recorded dozens of albums for RCA Victor, Philips, Arabesque and Surrounded By Entertainment. He has written two books: Indivisible by Four: A String Quartet in Pursuit of Harmony (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 1998); and Violin Dreams (Houghton Mifflin, 2006).

Jacobsen, violin and leader, is “one of the most interesting figures on the classical music scene”, (The Washington Post). He has performed, composed and arranged music for more than 30 albums, won a Grammy award and has received four Grammy nominations. He is a co-founder of the string quartet Brooklyn Rider, the chamber orchestra The Knights, an original member of Yo-Yo Ma’s Silkroad Ensemble and Artistic Director of Santa Fe Pro Musica.

Solem, piano, has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music from the Peabody Conservatory (Baltimore) where he studied organ, harpsichord, piano and flute. He has 30 years of experience in liturgical music and has taught music at Loyola University in Chicago.

He is the assistant organist for Santa Fe’s First Presbyterian Church and plays keyboards of all kinds for Pro Musica, including baroque chest organ, double-manual French harpsichord, single-manual Flemish harpsichord, harmonium, the Frederick R. Haas pipe organ in St. Francis Auditorium and the Hamburg Steinway in The Lensic.
