Staff Report:

Some 40 women gathered at the 100+ Women Who Care – Los Alamos 2nd quarterly meeting of 2024, held May 2 on the patio at Smith’s Marketplace.

The charitable event was sponsored by Los Alamos Public Schools Credit Union, Del Norte Credit Union and Zia Credit Union, which covered the cost of the venue and catered dinner. The evening featured 3-5 minute presentations by three local nonprofits randomly drawn one week prior to the event. The other presenters included the First Born Program of Los  Alamos and Los Alamos Search & Rescue.

Each of the women in attendance voted for one of the three organizations and in this case, LA Cares garnered the majority of votes and received a total of $3,500 in donations. The two remaining organizations are eligible for consideration again at future 100+ Women or 100 Men Who Care quarterly charitable events.

Both the women’s and men’s 100 Who Care volunteer organizers are continuing to take applications on a year-round, rolling basis from local nonprofit organizations. The Los Alamos Community Foundation is serving as the fiscal agent for these groups.

The application, linked here, has recently been simplified. Those who have already applied this year do not need to re-submit an application. Applications are open to nonprofits located in and serving Los Alamos County. The 100 Who Care model is based on a national program that encourages local grassroots philanthropy. The volunteers in Los Alamos do not have the capacity to screen regional or statewide giving, but they are happy to share the model with volunteers who want to support local giving in other communities.

100+ Women Who Care – Los Alamos extends special thanks to Del Norte Credit Union, Los Alamos Schools Credit Union and Zia Credit Union for sponsoring the event and to all of their representatives for doing a great job emceeing the evening. They also thank Smith’s for providing the patio and to Senor Tortas for the delicious tacos and music. They definitely got everyone in the mood for Cinco de Mayo.

100+ Women Who Care – Los Alamos also continues to thank the Los Alamos Community Foundation for acting as fiscal agent. Please help us to continue to grow this event and spread the word! Be sure to let  local non-profit organizations know they can still submit a grant proposal (application).

The third quarterly gathering of the year is set for 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1. The sponsor is EXIT Realty Advantage NM, and the location will be announced soon.
