Science Of The Solstice Talk At Nature Center June 20

Want to learn more about the longest day of the year? Come to the Los Alamos Nature Center Planetarium for a presentation on the Science of the Solstice at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 20.

Dr. Rick Wallace will discuss the astronomical significance of the sun, summer solstice, and its resulting seasons. If weather holds, he will also bring out his solar telescope.

Wallace has a Ph.D. in Astronomy and Astrophysics from the University of California at Santa Cruz (Lick Observatory), with concentration in numerical calculations of stellar explosions (Novae, Supernovae, X-ray Bursts), nuclear fusion, and formation of the elements. He also has served as a staff member at Los Alamos National Laboratory for more than 30 years.
