The Los Alamos High School Esports Team, Secret City Esports, is sending six teams to the NMAA State Championships being held April 10-12. 

The team was recently ranked the number three program in the United States by USA Today. This is the second year in a row making the top 25. Last year, they came in third overall at the state finals.

Esports became a New Mexico Activities Association (NMAA) sanctioned activity in 2019.

That year, teams from Los Alamos placed 2nd at the state competition. In 2021, they were named 4A state champions.

LAHS teacher Libbi Lovejoy is the sponsor of the Esports teams. “This year we are sending six teams to the NMAA State Championships which is a record number for Secret City Esports,” she said. “These students have worked very hard all season to qualify, and we are very proud of them.”

Qualifying teams are:

Hearthstone: Luke Patterson (Captain), Neal Sanders, Jacob Castro, Ralston Hoffer, and Ruben Diaz-Jimenez. Match time is 9:30 a.m., Thursday, April 10.

Rocket League: Henry Stidham (Captain), Eric Mecham, Max Cannon, Darius Patton, Fred Broyles, and Issac Miller. Match time is 4:30 p.m., Thursday, April 10.

Street Fighter 6: Jacob Castro (Captain), Trent Ogas, Tony Mishler, Lucas Price, and Ruben Diaz-Jimenez. Match time is 8 a.m., Friday, April 11.

Splatoon 3: Miles Iverson (Captain), Zane Kretz, Virgil Szinger, Kaden Coleson, Quinbee Sintay, N Stringfellow, Alice Thieme, and Maira Finn. Match time is 5 p.m., Friday, April 11. Super Smash Bros: Zane Kretz (Captain), Kaden Coleson, Jasmine Heft, Mars Brunette, Semih Zeytun, and Avery Conn. Match time is 8:30 a.m., Saturday, April 12. Mario Kart 8: Penny Doebling (Captain), Fortis Brown, Phillip Smith, Miles Iverson, Joe Dale, Jay Doebling, Sirena Quezada, and CJ Smith. Match time is 4 p.m., Saturday, April 12.
