SANTA FE ― Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver released the following statement after Senate Bill 3 was signed into law Thursday by Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham:
“The revisions to the Campaign Reporting Act included in this law give the public a better understanding of who is trying to influence our elections by providing more transparency and accountability in campaign finance reporting.
“I thank Senate Majority Leader Peter Wirth for his diligence and vision in passing this legislation, and I thank Gov. Lujan Grisham for signing it in to law.
“The new law revises New Mexico’s Campaign Reporting Act to provide clearer guidance to individuals and entities who report campaign finance expenditures to the Secretary of State’s Office, in addition to fixing an unconstitutional provision in the Campaign Reporting Act, and defining terms like “independent expenditures.”
