NMHR News:

SANTA FE — Members of the New Mexico Senate Republican Caucus have voted to elect Sen. Crystal Brantley (R-Elephant Butte) to serve as Caucus Chair, replacing Sen. David Gallegos (R-Eunice) who just became the Republican nominee to serve as New Mexico’s next Lieutenant Governor.

By stepping down as caucus chair, Sen. Gallegos will be better able to balance his legislative duties with the demands of his statewide campaign. The caucus appreciates Sen. Gallegos’s contributions while serving as Caucus Chair and is pleased he will continue serving the people of Senate District 41.

“Senator Brantley is entirely deserving of her new role in leadership,” said Senate Republican Leader Bill Sharer (R-Farmington). “She is a fierce advocate for the people of New Mexico, specifically in her tireless efforts to defend vulnerable children by reforming our state’s Children, Youth, & Families Department (CYFD), improve access to healthcare through repairing our state’s medical malpractice laws, and to defeat damaging and unconstitutional policies such as radical gun-grabs or extreme environmental mandates.”

The Senator concluded, “Our caucus thanks Senator Gallegos for his service on our leadership team. New Mexico Senate Republicans remain committed to improving our great state; together, we as New Mexicans can chart a path forward that stands for families and restores common sense to state government.”

Sen. Brantley responded to her election.

“I’m honored and humbled by the confidence my colleagues have placed in me. Republicans in New Mexico have a lot of work to do. In the upper chamber we are 16 strong—outnumbered but never outworked—and I intend to make sure every one of our members is focused, effective, and fighting for what New Mexico families actually need: safer communities, lower taxes, and an economy that gives people a reason to stay. The work starts now,” Sen. Brantley said.
