SANTA FE — The Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) has issued a temporary area and road closure order (03-10-03-24-10) for the La Cueva picnic site in the Jemez Ranger District to protect the public’s health and safety during construction activities.
While the closure order is in place crews will conduct a pavement preservation project funded by the Great American Outdoors Act (GAOA).
This order shall is in effect through 12 a.m. Aug. 4, unless rescinded.
The closure area includes all NFS lands within the La Cueva Picnic Site – specifically all areas within 150 feet of both sides of San Antonio Creek for the length of the picnic site and the entire length of Forest Service Road 44.
Prohibited activities:
- Going into or being upon the closure area. 36 C.F.R. § 261.53 (e).
- Using any motor vehicle on Forest Service Road 44. 36 C.F.R. § 261.54(a).
Violation of the closure order is punishable. Federal, state, and local officers, firefighters, members of an organized rescue team, and any others authorized by Forest Service permit are exempt from the closure order.
The closure order and map are available on the SFNF website under Alerts & Warnings, and copies are available at the SFNF Supervisor’s Office (SO) and the Jemez Ranger District Office.
