SFNF Issues Closure Order In Española Ranger District

SFNF News:

The Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) has issued a temporary closure for sections of Forest Road 102 and the Windsor Trail in the Española Ranger District. This is a temporary closure to protect traditional and cultural resources and uses.

This Order went into effect at 8 a.m. Sept. 12 and remains in effect through 8 a.m. Sept. 15, unless rescinded.

Prohibitions: Pursuant to 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 36 C.F.R. § 261.50 (a) and (b), the following is prohibited on the National Forest System (NFS) lands in the Española Ranger District, Santa Fe National Forest:

1. Going into or being upon the Described Area which are closed to protect the privacy of Tribal activities for traditional and cultural purposes. 36 C.F.R. § 261.53(g)

2. Being on a trail within the Described Area 36 C.F.R § 261.55(a)

3. Being on the road within the Described Area 36 C.F.R. § 261.54(e)

Violation of the closure order is punishable by fines and/or imprisonment. Federal, state, local officers, firefighters and members of organized rescue teams are exempt from this Order.

The closure order and map are available on the SFNF website under Alerts & Notices, and copies are available at the SFNF Supervisor’s Office and the Española District Office.
