BUSINESS News:

Ruby K’s Bagel Café, now a beloved Los Alamos institution, will celebrate its 10th anniversary in February. Founded in 2005, Ruby K’s became a reality when it was recognized that Los Alamos had a need to serve the ‘bagel-hungry’.

“We wanted to ignite a spark in Los Alamos by providing a café with super-yummy food, a clever menu and a fun, ‘no-attitude’ atmosphere with top-notch customer service,” owner Ruby Alexander said.

With their trademark touches like their signature mini muffins and homemade bagel chips along with their friendly, talented staff, it’s no wonder they’ve gained a loyal following.

The personal connections are what has made Ruby K’s such a success. The staff calls all the regulars by name and Ruby K’s has become a home away from home for many folks in Los Alamos. Alexander and her staff are proud of the mentoring role they play for their young employees, many of whom are working at their first job.

“The employees are the heart and soul of the business,” Alexander said.

The café employs around 30 people, most of them part time.

“We couldn’t have made it happen without our loyal customers,” Alexander said. “The support we’ve received from the Los Alamos residents is phenomenal and we appreciate this support EVERYDAY!”

The bagels, breads and cupcakes served at Ruby K’s are made from scratch on site. The homemade goodness of the food has played a major role in the café’s success. In addition to its artisan sandwiches and bagels, the café also offers delicious soups, salads and smoothies.

Join the staff at Ruby K’s on Small Business Saturday, Nov. 29, where the café will serve samples of menu items and smoothies. The celebration also will include prize and gift card drawings and the opportunity to build-your-own bagel bird feeder. Get a discount on your smoothie purchase by bringing in a receipt from another small, local business from that day. A portion of Ruby K’ proceeds from that day will benefit the United Way.

Come one, come all and SHOP SMALL! #shopsmall.
