Pastor Granillo: Religiosity
Pastor Raul GranilloGod tells the prophet, Isaiah, that the Hebrew people “seem” to be eager to know God’s ways. He tells Isaiah that they act like a nation that is doing what is right. They ask God to make just decisions for them, and they “seem” to “be eager for God to come close to them” (Isaiah 58:1-2).
The problem is that they only “seem” to be that way. In every religious aspect they appear to be the people of God.
“’Why have we fasted,’ they say, ‘and you have not seen it? Why have we humbled ourselves, and you have not noticed?’”
“Yet on the day of Read More

Pastor Granillo: Preemptive Peace
By Pastor RAUL GRANILLOAs I sat down to write this, my house shook from the shockwave of a nearby explosion. Thursdays are when the National Lab performs explosive test here in Los Alamos; or so I have been told. (I don’t have clearance, so have to take everyone at their word.) Thursdays are often a surreal reminder of our distrust for others and the extremes that we will go to in order to protect our way of life. As a husband and a father, it scares the hell out me.
According their website, in 2015 there were 10,827 people employed working at Los Alamos National Labs. The vast majority of those Read More
Pastor Granillo: Swing Big!
By PASTOR RAUL GRANILLO Swing Big!
“One of the beautiful things about baseball is that every once in a while you come into a situation where you want to, and where you have to, reach down and prove something.” — Nolan Ryan
The boys that I coach often hear two phrases from me: “Hustle!” and “Swing Big!” These are common phrases for any little league coach, and any parent can expect to hear them at their child’s baseball game. However, I think it’s worth asking ourselves why we say them. Like many things we do and say, the purpose matters.
Anywhere kids are on a team, you will find both parents and Read More

Courtesy photoPastor Granillo: Imaginary Friends
By Pastor RAUL GRANILLOMy three-year-old son, Isaac, has an imaginary friend named Zappy. Zappy is well known in our family, and once even took a place at the dinner table. Isaac often tells us about the things Zappy says and does. Sometimes Isaac even blames Zappy for the mischief he gets into. While we don’t tolerate Isaac putting the blame on Zappy, we don’t worry too much about him having an imaginary friend. After all, Isaac is already noticing that Zappy can’t do a lot of the things real people can do. I am certain that Isaac will soon outgrow Zappy just as I outgrew my imaginary friend Read More

Pastor Granillo: Understanding Women And Kings
By Pastor RAUL GRANILLO
Los Alamos
Understanding Women and Kings.
When I first got married, I knew the primary rule of marriage was that I was to be devoted to this one woman, alone, for the rest of my life. Of course, I was naïve about a lot of things.
I thought all this rule meant, was that other women were off limits. I dare say every husband learns quickly that there is more to it than that. For example, it would not end will if you told your wife that you preferred your mom’s cooking or her cleaning methods.
I learned a lot of serious stuff as well. My wife had her own journey through life before she met me. Read More

Pastor Granillo: Rebellious Conformation
By Pastor RAUL GRANILLORebellious Conformation.
A primary purpose for all of the laws that God had given the Israelites, through Moses, was to make them distinct from the other people of the world. They were to stand out as the people of God. This distinction was more than just a part of their religion. It was more than culture. It had become a part of their very identity as Jews. It says a lot that they asked Samuel, the prophet, for a king.
Even after Samuel warned the Israelites that having a king would only serve to give them the same problems that the other nations of the world faced, they Read More
