Fr. Glenn: Of Eternal Amity
Well, here we are almost at the new year … gym operators gearing up for the onrush of many resolutionists, kids trying to get as much as they can out of the quickly waning respite from school, CPAs dreading long hours, weeks and months prepping tax returns.
Speaking of government stuff, while not really in this column’s purview, something very important which will affect many came up in conversation with my CPA (of 40 years’ experience), missed by media attention, yet having potentially devastating effects for many—especially small businesses, and perhaps many readers.

One of my favorite memes online describes how we feel in this “week between” the holidays of Christmas and New Year’s day as “Confused and Full of Cheese”. (See image)
I am here to encourage you in this week of continued festivities, days off from work, family and friend gatherings, and yes- more church services upon us, that you live into a prolonged sabbath rest as Read More

Fr. Glenn: Sweet Water
Ah … the weekend before Christmas, and all through the house …
Well … There are probably at least a few creatures stirring—parents wrapping gifts, bored kids out of school playing video games or on their phones and tablets, links to Amazon and Etsy and other shopping portals getting slammed by late shoppers hoping that their packages might…just might…arrive at their destinations before Christmas (“I’ll pay extra shipping! Just get it there before Wednesday!!”)
But, hopefully, in all the chaos and hubbub we might remember the whole reason for the season: the birth of Read More

“Safe travels.” “Text when you get there.” These are the text messages my family sends whenever one of us is traveling, either on a plane or a long car ride. The message is literal: we are hoping and praying that the travel goes smoothly, with no cancelled flights or road construction or accidents.
Compare this to the sentiment those of you who have walked Read More

Fr. Glenn: Finding Rest
Last weekend Bashar al-Assad’s regime in Syria fell to what have been reported to be U.S.-backed rebels. Subsequent videos coming from the area allegedly show atrocities occurring, including persecution of a large Christian population existing in Syria. We’ll have to see what the future brings. It will be especially trying for the Christians suffering so especially now that the Christmas season is fast approaching.
There were also videos supposedly displaying Assad’s “garage”—several tens of vehicles at least: Rolls Royces, Lamberghinis, Corvettes, Ferraris, Cadillacs, Read More
Op-Ed: Israel And Charges Of Genocide
By TERRY HANSEN
Milwaukee, Wisc.
Kudos to Jody Benson for her powerful op-ed in which she declares, “No, I am not antisemitic. I am anti-genocide.”
The human rights organization Amnesty International has issued a nearly 300 page report concluding that Israel is committing genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. Israel and the United States have both rejected this accusation.
However, Amnesty International is not alone in reaching this determination. Amos Goldberg, a Holocaust and genocide researcher at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, has also concluded that Israel’s Read More

Does this time of year make you feel nostalgic? All I have to do is put on a late sixties LP called The Candy Clarinet by Dixieland jazz great Pete Fountain, and I’m transported back to my grandmother’s house.
I heard a talk recently about God and time, and remember thinking, “But that’s not how it works!” From a traditional Christian perspective, there are two versions Read More
Op-Ed: I Am Not Antisemitic
I am not antisemitic.
No, I am not antisemitic even though I stand against Israel’s decimation of Gaza.
I attest to the fact that Hamas, elected in 2006, is a totalitarian regime whose military wing the US has designated a terrorist organization.
I attest Hamas does not recognize Israel, and that since 1993, it has committed suicide bombings on Israel in retribution against the Israeli 1967 occupation of both Gaza and the West Bank.
I attest that on October 7, 2023, Hamas led other Palestinian militant nationalist groups in a terrorist attack in the Gaza Envelope that killed Read More
Interfaith Los Alamos Grateful For Coat Drive Success
Los Alamos did it again. It was amazing. This community has such a big heart. Interfaith Los Alamos had more than 150 coats to deliver to Lutheran Family Services the Monday before Thanksgiving, and they said they’d try to get them distributed before that Thursday. There were also $800 of gift cards delivered. Interfaith Los Alamos thinks that is a record and an amazing turn out in these times of need everywhere.
Interfaith Los Alamos sincerely thought this would be the wrap up to its connection with Lutheran Family Services, but Los Alamos resident David Israelevitz Read More
Fr. Glenn: … A Time To Weep, And A Time To Laugh …
Several years ago saw the tragic spectacle of one of the iconic cathedrals in the world and symbol of medieval France—the magnificent Notre Dame in Paris—wholly aflame … its soaring spire engulfed and toppling into the inferno as if the Satan himself had opened his contemptible maw to consume this gem of beauty … this jewel of Christianity. Truly a time to weep.
But this weekend saw world leaders in collective thanksgiving as they attended the re-opening ceremonies after years of intensive renovation … on the eve of the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Read More

On the second Sunday of Advent our churches read in the Gospel of Luke (ch. 3) about the one sent to announce the coming of the Lord. In this passage, John the Baptist enters the scene, clothed in camel skins, a man living rough who knows something we do not: the Lord is coming, and we need to get ready.
What does it mean for 21st century people of faith to “get ready for Read More

Homelessness is a chronic issue throughout Northern New Mexico; no one is immune from it. Take for instance, Española, which is grappling with how to address homeless encampments and Los Alamos is experiencing its own homeless individuals.
In response, an Interfaith Coalition on Homelessness was created to offer remedies to those who find themselves without a home.
