Fr. Glenn: Many Faces

By Fr. Glenn Jones:
So it begins…
Already there are numerous reported scams of those who would rob others of the stimulus the government has offered … in the midst of one of the most financially-challenging periods in many of our lifetimes, no less. Just a warning: If someone calls asking for your bank and account number or your SSN, DON’T give it to them! It’s a sad reality that we have to be wary of heartless scammers who literally rob even the elderly of their life’s savings.
Most persons would likely never stoop to doing something so contemptible … so dishonorable. But then … thinking about such Read More

Fr. Glenn: Choose
By Fr. Glenn Jones
As is often said, crises bring out the best and the worst in people. We’ve seen this in spades over the last few week with the whole world scrambling with the COVID-19 situation—certainly a situation quite unique in most people’s lifetimes, especially in the so-called first-world countries. It certainly makes one appreciate modern medicine all the more and the eradication of so many deadly diseases in many parts of the world … as well as renewing our sympathy for those who continue to struggle with less-than-modern medicine.
In this time, two starkly contrasting personality Read More

Fr. Glenn: Bursting Bubbles
By Fr. Glenn Jones
Was very sorry to see the news of Los Alamos yesterday with a number of shops having been “broken into”… rather an understatement when one looks at the photos. The poor shop owners—first they get hit with closures because of the coronavirus, and now this. “Who woulda’ thunk it” in quiet little Los Alamos? But … it happens once in a while. Los Alamosians will remember a several-night crime spree a few years ago. Such things certainly wake us up from easy complacency.
That “double whammy” of the shop owners reminded of a much worse double hit in the early 20th century; you may have seen Read More

Fr. Glenn: When The Going Gets Tough…
By Fr. Glenn Jones
So these days we find ourselves in the midst of a health crisis … spawning an economic and financial crisis in its wake. Tanking markets. Fear, uncertainty, trepidation, worry. Isolation against an invisible enemy. Empty streets. Vacant airports. Closures. Shortages. Unemployment. Lockdowns. Dire forecasts. Flattening, but extending, “the curve”.
…Opportunity.
One of the most pervasive misconceptions about the divine is that, if we are good people, God should make everything hunky-dory for us all the time. Well, for one thing, who among us is truly good? Even Jesus Read More
