Baseball enthusiasts will no doubt recognize the name Bill Veeck, one-time owner of the Chicago White Sox. However, he wore a different uniform as a student at the Los Alamos Ranch School in 1931-1932.

The Atomic City Road Runner’s weekly pace race held Tuesday in Rendija Canyon was hampered by rain approximately halfway into the race and the predict slips were not usable for accurate predictions.
In the 1-mile distance Max Davis, 3, was the top finisher at 12:35 and the first female was Aster Zavoria, 2, with a time of 26:13.
Madeline Harms was the best finisher in the 2-mile race, recording a 19:12 and Warren Scoggins was the first male finisher at 23:22.

Albuquerque To Host Senior Softball Championships

ALBUQUERQUE — Albuquerque will host the 2025 Senior Softball – USA Land of Enchantment Championships from June 24-29 at the Los Altos Softball Complex and Tingley Field.
This year’s tournament will bring more than 1,100 athletes and their families to the city, representing over 75 teams from states including Hawaii, Florida, Utah, and throughout the Southwest. Local teams such as Los Toros (Men’s 60+ division) and the NM Wolfpack (Men’s 65+ division) will return to defend their championship titles. VADITO — Sipapu Ski and Summer Resort announced that it will build a new two-person chairlift to replace an iconic detachable surface lift that’s been transporting skiers at Sipapu for nearly half a century.

New Mexico Pro Hockey Club Announces Three Finalists For ‘Name The Team’ Contest

RIO RANCHO — Following a strong response from the community, the New Mexico Pro Hockey Club (NMPHC) has announced the three finalists for its official team name.
The “Name the Team” contest generated nearly 2,000 submissions from fans across the state and beyond.
The following names have been selected as finalists:
- Cutthroats — A nod to the native Rio Grande cutthroat trout, New Mexico’s state fish, known for its aggressive nature and striking colors.
- Goatheads — Inspired by the goathead thorn – a relentless desert weed that’s nearly impossible to kill – and the wild Ibex
