NMSP News:
New Mexico State Police (NMSP) arrested a New Mexico Corrections Department Officer May 15, 2025, on multiple charges of Criminal Sexual Contact of female inmates after a lengthy investigation.
The investigation began April 16, 2025, when the New Mexico State Police Uniform Bureau received information about alleged sexual assaults that occurred at the Western New Mexico Correctional Facility in Grants. Multiple female inmates alleged that corrections officer Elijah Williams, 21, sexually assaulted them.
During the investigation, NMSP revealed credible evidence suggesting Williams engaged in unlawful sexual contact with incarcerated women under his supervision at the facility.
The alleged incidents occurred over a period of time, resulting in the inmates coming forward and making complaints.
Williams turned himself in to NMSP May 15, 2025, and was booked into the Cibola County Detention Center without further incident.
He is being charged with the following:
- 4 Counts of Criminal Sexual Contact; and
- 1 Count of Battery.
“We acted immediately, terminating the individual and notifying State Police,” said New Mexico Corrections Department Cabinet Secretary Alisha Tafoya Lucero. “We have zero tolerance for any misconduct, and any officer or staff member who engages in misconduct will be fully removed and referred for criminal prosecution to the fullest extent.”
This incident remains under investigation by the New Mexico State Police.
