State Police Receives Third Re-Accreditation From Commission On Accreditation For Law Enforcement Agencies

NMSP News:

The New Mexico State Police is proud to announce our third re-accreditation with the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).

CALEA was created in 1979 as a credentialing authority for law enforcement agencies and serves to develop standards for public safety agencies and administer complementary accreditation processes.

The New Mexico State Police is committed to pursuing methods of improving our performance and service to the citizens of New Mexico. We strive to continue being a leader in the New Mexico law enforcement community by adhering to an enhanced set of standards and procedures for law enforcement. The CALEA accreditation program offers us the opportunity to enhance our ability to improve and maintain the public’s trust in our personnel and operations by voluntarily demonstrating we meet a set of standards which are internationally recognized.

CALEA accreditation is a highly-prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence. The accreditation program requires our agency to comply with over 400 state-of-the-art standards covering four basic areas:  policy and procedure, administration, operations and support services. The New Mexico State Police reviewed our initial accredited on July 26, 2008. We have since received our 1st re-acceptation in November 2011 and our second re-accreditation in November 2014.

After a three year process, which culminated in an on-site assessment in March 2017, a highly trained CALEA assessment team visited our agency. The on-site assessment ensured the New Mexico State Police meets the Commission’s state-of-the-art standards with a thorough review of our agency. This included interviews with department employees, conversations with local community leaders and input from the public. The assessment team submitted a final report for a review by the CALEA Commission.

On July 29, 2017 Chief Pete Kassetas spoke to a CALEA review commission about the results of the on-site and the final report from the assessment team. The committee, made of four CALEA commissioners, had a unanimous vote for NMSP to receive our 3rd re-accreditation.

The New Mexico State Police is proud of the work we have completed in ensuring we provide the best possible service to the citizens of New Mexico.
