State Road 112 At El Vado Dam Closed May 27–Sept. 4, 2026

NMDOT News:

The closure prevents all public access across the dam, requiring travelers to use alternative routes, 24 hours a day throughout the closure period.

NO through traffic will be permitted; emergency vehicles must find alternate routes!

The closure allows for investigatory drilling and equipment staging on the roadway as part of long-term dam rehabilitation efforts and ongoing safety investigations into the dam’s foundation, following repairs that began in 2022.

The drilling site will be monitored by security personnel and all theft, vandalism or damage to equipment or materials will be investigated and prosecuted.

Road closure signage will be posted at the junctions of NM-96 with NM-112, US-84 with NM-96, County Road 531 with US 84, NM-95 with US-84 and on NM-112 north of the dam, to alert travelers of closure schedules of NM Highway 112 over El Vado Dam.
