People across New Mexico will begin receiving emergency alerts on their cell phones after a Silver Alert or Turquoise Alert is issued for a missing elderly individual or Native American who meets the established alert criteria. The Silver and Turquoise Alert system operates similarly to the AMBER Alert system but is specifically tailored to assist in locating at-risk adults that meet the criteria. Alerts include descriptions of the missing person, the last known location, and any vehicle information if available.

$1.9 Million In Broadband Grants Available

ALBUQUERQUE — The Office of Broadband Access and Expansion (OBAE) today announced three new broadband planning grants, bringing the program’s total awards to $3.1 million while $1.9 million in funding remains available for immediate use.

SANTA FE — The New Mexico state Supreme Court has vacated the felony murder and aggravated burglary convictions of a man for fatally shooting a Santa Fe homeowner in his backyard in 2018.
In a split decision, the Court concluded that a portal – a covered porch or patio attached to a home – is not a structure that could be burglarized under New Mexico law. As a result, there was no underlying felony to elevate the homicide to a charge of felony murder.
