Udall, Heinrich Highlight Initiatives For Native American Students In New Education Law

SENATE News:

WASHINGTON ― U.S. Senators Tom Udall and Martin Heinrich highlighted several provisions that support Tribes, Native students and schools serving Native students in the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), which the president signed into law last week.

Udall and Heinrich both worked to include several bipartisan reforms supporting Native students in the bill, which overhauls the nation’s controversial No Child Left Behind education law.

Fugitive Arrested In New Mexico Prison Gang Probe

A fugitive wanted in connection with a federal investigation into a New Mexico prison gang was arrested Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2015 in Denver.

The U.S. Marshals Service’s South West Investigative Fugitive Team and Colorado Violent Offender Task Force arrested Denver resident Arturo Arnulfo Garcia, 48, at a residence there.

Garcia was among two fugitives wanted after two indictments were unsealed earlier this month charging 25 defendants with participating in a violent racketeering enterprise known as the Syndicato de Nuevo Mexico (SNM) Prison Gang.

“Cured Earth,” the ninth video in the tourism department’s popular New Mexico True Stories video series, has been released via NewMexico.org and the Visit New Mexico social media sites.
