NNSA Announces Procurement Of Penguin Computing Clusters To Support Stockpile Stewardship At National Laboratories

WASHINGTON, D.C.  The National Nuclear Security Administration’s (NNSA’s) Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory today announced the awarding of a subcontract to Penguin Computing – a leading developer of high-performance Linux cluster computing systems based in Silicon Valley – to bolster computing for stockpile stewardship at its three national security laboratories.

PARCC Results For Los Alamos Public Schools

LAPS News:

In Los Alamos, PARCC scores for English Language Arts were higher than in mathematics, especially Algebra 1. The PARCC results for Los Alamos High School were better than the statewide aggregate scores for the tests.

PARCC stands for the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers.  Students in grades 3-11 took the PARCC tests last March and April. This is the first time results have been released.

Former Springer Police Chief Leon Herrera Pleads Guilty To Impersonating Federal Officer

ALBUQUERQUE—(Former Springer police chief) Leon Herrera, 37, of Las Vegas, N.M., pleaded guilty Thursday in federal court in Albuquerque, N.M., to falsely impersonating a federal officer.

Herrera entered his guilty plea to a felony information charging him with impersonating a Special Agent of the DEA Dec. 15, 2014, in Colfax County. In his plea agreement, Herrera admitted that he committed the crime at the behest of a friend who was then employed as a deputy sheriff in Colfax County (friend).

LANL Protective Force Contract Protested

The Los Alamos National Laboratory protective force contract that was awarded to Centerra Group, LLC Sept. 11 has been formally protested by SOC, LLC, the incumbent service provider.

“There is a protest,” said SOC Los Alamos General Manager Jack Killeen today. “The lawyers are working on it.”

The New Mexico Environmental Improvement Board (EIB) will hold a public hearing at 9 a.m., Dec. 18 in Room 322 at the State Capitol Building, 490 Old Santa Fe Trail in Santa Fe.

The purpose of the hearing is to consider the matter of EIB 15-01(R), proposed amendments to 20.2.77 NMAC (New Source Performance Standards), 20.2.78 NMAC (Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants) and 20.2.82 NMAC (Maximum Achievable Control Technology Standards for Source Categories of Hazardous Air Pollutants).
