AFTNM/ATF Lawsuit Against NMPED Concludes With Motion For Preliminary Injunction Today

SANTA FE  American Federation of Teachers New Mexico and the Albuquerque Teachers Federation’s District Court lawsuit against the New Mexico Public Education Department concludes today with the plaintiff’s motion for a preliminary injunction.
 
This lawsuit seeks to provide relief to educators across New Mexico by pausing, and eventually seeking to prevent the use of high-stakes testing in the evaluation of education professionals.

Los Alamos National Laboratory’s Research Library (SRO-RL) Director Dee Magnoni is the new president elect of the Special Libraries Association beginning in January 2016.

She will serve one year as president-elect, followed by a year as president (2017) and a year as past president. Additionally, Magnoni will serve a three-year-term on the association’s Board of Directors.

Udall, Heinrich Welcome $5.7 Million To Build Veterans Cemetery At Fort Stanton

WASHINGTON, D.C. U.S. Senators Tom Udall and Martin Heinrich have announced that they have secured $5,741,388 to cover the full cost of construction for a veterans cemetery near Fort Stanton.
 
Currently, the state has only two veterans cemeteries — located in Santa Fe and at Fort Bayard — and many veterans and their families have to travel a great distance to honor loved ones. 
 
The new cemetery at Fort Stanton will serve more than 7,500 veterans and their families. Ground breaking for the project is expected this coming Veterans Day, Nov.
