New Mexico Receives Nearly $2.5 Million In Federal Disaster Assistance For Tres Lagunas Fire

DENTON, Texas – The state of New Mexico has been awarded nearly $2.5 million in federal disaster assistance in the aftermath of the Tres Lagunas Fire that happened in late May, early June 2013.
The funding, which is made possible by the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Fire Management Assistance Grant Program, serves as reimbursement for firefighting costs incurred while fighting the fire.

Anna Scott was named a 2015 Goldwater Scholar last week. She is a 2013 graduate of Los Alamos high school and is currently a sophomore at Montana State University in Bozeman, Mont.
She also was a 2014 summer student at Los Alamos National Laboratory (she worked in the Materials Science and Technology Division for Dr. Ken McClellan).

Federal Jury Finds Albuquerque Man Guilty of Violating the Hobbs Act
ALBUQUERQUE—A federal jury sitting in Santa Fe, returned a verdict Thursday finding David Savoy Thomas guilty of four counts of violating the Hobbs Act by robbing and attempting to rob commercial businesses involved in interstate commerce after a three-day trial.
The guilty verdict was announced by U.S. Attorney Damon P. Martinez, Special Agent in Charge Carol K.O. Lee of the FBI’s Albuquerque Division, and Albuquerque Police Chief Gorden Eden, Jr.

SANTA FE — Gov. Susana Martinez announced Friday the appointment of Ted Barela to fill the vacancy in Senate District 39 created by the resignation of former Sen. Phil Griego.
Griego represented a portion of Los Alamos prior to redistricting. He resigned in March after drawing scrutiny for his involvement in the real estate transaction of a state-owned building in Santa Fe.
