SANTA FE – The lightning caused Pino Fire, on Santa Fe National Forest’s Jemez Ranger District, is now estimated at 152 acres. The fire is five miles south of N.M. 4 and six miles east of Jemez Springs.
This fire is being managed for resource benefits. Sunday’s fire behavior was the most active seen on this fire, and is accomplishing resource objectives, including fuel reduction, nutrient recycling, forest insect and disease regulation, and watershed protection for Ponderosa and other communities. Firefighting operations on the Pino Fire are gradually intensifying to take advantage of predicted favorable weather. It is expected that conditions on Tuesday, Sept. 2 will be optimal for aerial and hand ignitions to direct fire to holding and control features.
