The Center works to conserve and restore native wildlife and their habitats through action-oriented education, promotion of public awareness, strategic partnerships and responsible wildlife rehabilitation. Each year, The Wildlife Center takes in up to 1,000 orphaned, ill and injured animals from across the state. These animals include mountain lions, porcupines, pelicans, owls, eagles, hummingbirds and ravens. U.S. SENATE News:
U.S. Sen. Tom Udall, D-N.M., welcomed the Senate Judiciary Committee’s approval of his proposed constitutional amendment to restore power to regulate campaign finance to the people.
Udall’s amendment would clarify in the Constitution that money does not equal speech, effectively reversing U.S. Supreme Court decisions, which have unraveled campaign finance regulations and handed undue influence over elections to corporations and wealthy donors.
Following the July 10 committee vote, Udall’s amendment is expected to be considered

Thursday, all five members of New Mexico’s congressional delegation sent a letter to the acting director of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to express their serious concerns about the New Mexico VA’s handling of the recent tragic death of a veteran at its Medical Center in Albuquerque, as well as its lack of transparency in response to requests for information from the public and their offices.

NNSA Recognizes Industry Partners for Efforts to Eliminate HEU in Medical Isotope Production

The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) today recognized two industry partners for their efforts to eliminate the use of weapons-useable highly enriched uranium (HEU) in the production of medical isotopes.
Presented on behalf of NNSA Deputy Administrator for Defense Nuclear Nonproliferation, Anne Harrington, the awards to United Pharmacy Partners, LLC., (UPPI) and Lantheus Medical Imaging, Inc., (LMI) are in recognition of their efforts to increase the use of non-HEU-based molybdenum-99 (Mo-99).

WIPP: Investigation Continues in Room 7
WIPP News:
Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) employees are continuing their efforts to develop a system that allows workers to obtain additional video footage, photographs and samples in Room 7 of Panel 7.
The Accident Investigation Board requested this work to gather more information on the waste containers beyond what has already been obtained. To date, the project has been able to examine the first 16 rows of waste containers. After evaluating and testing a variety of options, the Reach team selected a 90-foot carbon adjustable boom with a base that rides on a beam system.

NNSA Announces Federal and Contractor Security Professional of the Year Awards

The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) announced Thursday the recipients of the Bradley A. Peterson Federal and Contractor Security Professional of the Year Awards.
Paulette Solis from Sandia National Laboratories will receive the contractor award and Susan Christian-Payne from the Nevada Field Office will receive the federal award.
The awards recognize one federal employee and one contractor employee whose contributions to security programs within the NNSA enterprise serve as models for excellence and commitment to the NNSA mission.

The Los Alamos Golf Course is hosting the “Drive For Matches” Golf Tournament, benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) in Los Alamos and Rio Arriba Counties.
