RTD’s Blue Buses Not in Service Memorial Day

The North Central Regional Transit District (NCRTD) has announced that the RTD “Blue Buses” will not be in service Monday, May 26, in observance of the Memorial Day holiday.
Regularly scheduled bus service throughout north central New Mexico including Los Alamos, Rio Arriba, Santa Fe and Taos Counties will resume Tuesday, May 27.

Los Alamos Police Participating in Click it or Ticket and 100 Days and Nights of Summer Enforcement Programs

The Los Alamos Police Department is participating in the statewide, Click it or Ticket (CIOT) and 100 Days and Nights of Summer enforcement programs.
CIOT focuses on driver, passenger and child restraint compliance and 100 Days and Nights focuses on reducing traffic related injuries or fatalities. These programs will run through the end of summer.

Comments Sought on State Transportation Improvement Program

The public is invited to comment on the New Mexico Department of Transportation’s fifth amendmentto the State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP).
The program will serve as a four year plan for the state’s federal aid highway program.
The STIP contains proposed road and bridge projects and is required under the federal legislation. Projects on the list are on federal and state highways (roads with I, U.S. or NM designations).

FBI Seeks Public’s Help Identifying Body Discovered in Shiprock
FBI News:
The FBI and Navajo Nation Division of Public Safety are seeking the public’s help in identifying a woman whose body was found in Shiprock Sunday night.
The body was discovered in a concrete irrigation ditch near Mesa Farm Road at approximately 7:30 p.m.. and no identification was found on the body, which could have been in the ditch for up to 24 hours.
The woman is described as a Native American in her late teens or early 20s, with long black hair and a tattoo of a star on her neck. She was wearing a black T-shirt.

Absorbent Used in Kitty Litter May Be Cause of Radiation Leaks at WIPP

A wheat-based absorbent often used in kitty litter may be the likely cause of the radiation leak that led to the closure of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP), the U.S. only underground nuclear waste repository, according to Jim Conca, a former geochemist at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL).
Conca noted that EnergySolutions, a Salt Lake City-based company hired to package radioactive waste at LANL into containers for shipment to the WIPP, switched from using a clay-based absorbent in the storage drums to a wheat-based mixture. Read More
