New Mexico Poetry Out Loud champion Kaitlyn Lubega, duels with the nation’s top poetry talent. Lubega, a 12th grader attending United World College (UWC-USA) in Montezuma, NM, will compete with all 55 state and jurisdictional champions.

SANTA FE — Awareness, prevention and real-time solutions can make a difference when it comes to New Mexico’s ongoing efforts to reduce fentanyl overdose in the state.    

Tuesday, April 29 is National Fentanyl Awareness Day, and the New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) wants residents to know the important resources available to help.

Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid manufactured both legally for pain management and illegally as a street drug. It is the substance most often involved in fatal overdoses in the state.

New Mexico Supreme Court Orders New Trial For Two Men In Fatal Shooting In Valencia County

SANTA FE — The state Supreme Court today vacated the convictions of two men convicted of murder and other offenses in a 2019 fatal shooting in Valencia County and ordered a new trial.

In a unanimous decision, the Court concluded that a district court wrongly excluded an eyewitness from being called to testify at trial, which deprived Jesus Garcia and Alexandro Montelongo-Murillo of their constitutional right to present a defense.

The eyewitness, Lorenzo Montaño, was a neighbor who saw the drive-by shooting and identified a man who was never charged in the crime as one of the assailants. Read More
