Earth Day Hike Up Oak Canyon With Jemez Historic Site

Celebrate Earth Day outdoors with a guided hike from a Jemez Historic Site ranger 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., Saturday, April 19.
A ranger at Jemez Historic Site will lead a free guided 1.5-mile hike up Oak Canyon (a.k.a. Church Canyon) in honor of Earth Day. This is a moderate hike over rough terrain. Hikers should bring water, sturdy shoes, sunscreen and a sack lunch. Rangers will identify the species of flora and fauna encountered.

Winter made a return visit last week to New Mexico. Friday and Saturday saw winter-like temperatures below freezing. The big winner in terms of snowfall was the east facing slopes of the Sangre de Cristo mountains. Areas near Mora picked up 16 inches of snow.
The temperatures will rise dramatically this coming week, with forecasts calling for 80 degrees by Saturday.

Supreme Court Rules That Ranch’s Lawsuit Against Land Commissioner Should Be Dismissed

SANTA FE — The state Supreme Court ruled today that a ranch’s lawsuit challenging the leasing process for wind energy projects on state trust land was filed in court in the wrong county and must be dismissed.
In a unanimous opinion, the Court clarified the application of a state venue statute – Section 38-3-1(D)(1) – that requires civil lawsuits implicating land interests to be brought in the county where the land is located.
