The Tusas Fire started at approximately 4 p.m., April 22, 2026. When the Northern New Mexico Type 3 Incident Management Team took command of the fire, their focus was on suppressing the fire, protecting property, and evacuating residents whose lives might be in danger.
They were presented with a challenge when it was discovered that a local resident’s goats had escaped and were lost somewhere within the fire perimeter.

SANTA FE — The Bureau of Land Management is seeking public comments on 68 parcels across 197,852 acres in Doña Ana, Grant, Hidalgo, Luna, and Sierra counties that may be offered in a June 16 geothermal lease sale. This public feedback period ends May 11, 2026. The official sale notice will post to the BLM National NEPA Register on May 1. Leasing of these parcels will allow lessees to explore the potential for future geothermal development. Court Of Appeals Will Hear A Case In Roswell On Law Day

ROSWELL – The state Court of Appeals will conduct an oral argument before students in Roswell on May 1 as part of the national observance of Law Day.
A three-judge panel of the Court will hear attorneys present arguments in an appeal of a man’s conviction of a misdemeanor charge of resisting or obstructing an officer.
