SANTA FE — Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham signed an executive order establishing the New Mexico Energy Affordability and Grid Reliability Council to address the rising cost of electricity in a rapidly changing energy landscape.
The Council will convene state agency leaders, utility executives and experts in rural cooperative utilities, tribal energy, consumer advocacy, and energy policy and infrastructure to develop strategies for keeping energy affordable while ensuring the grid can meet the demands of a growing, modernizing New Mexico economy.

Texas Woman Sentenced For Fentanyl Distribution In Southern New Mexico

ALBUQUERQUE — A Texas woman has been sentenced for her role in a drug trafficking organization that distributed fentanyl into southern New Mexico.
There is no parole in the federal system.
According to court documents, between Jan. 24, 2024, and Feb. 7, 2025, Mayra Mendivil, 37, participated in a drug trafficking organization operating between Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, and southern New Mexico. SANTA FE — House Republican Caucus Chair Rebecca Dow (R- Truth or Consequences) and Rep. Randall T. Pettigrew (R- Lea County) are urging the State Purchasing Division within the General Services Department to review a growing number of sole source contracts across state government.
A sole source contract allows an agency to award a contract without a competitive bidding process when only one vendor is deemed able to provide the service.

Report: New Mexico Climbs National Preschool Rankings

SANTA FE — New Mexico ranks seventh in the nation for preschool access among 3-year-olds and 11th in the nation among 4-year-olds, according to a new report released Wednesday by the National Institute for Early Education Research.
