Why I’m Running for County Council

This November, Los Alamos residents will elect candidates to fill four of the seven seats on the Los Alamos County Council. I’m one of the eight candidates competing for a Council position, and I’d like to share my reasons for running.

First, I value our community. I have a deep appreciation for the quality of life available to Los Alamos residents. I’m grateful to have the opportunity to live with my husband and our two elementary age children in an environment that’s safe, with good schools, terrific outdoor recreation opportunities, a beautiful environment, and a community filled with interesting and engaged people, many of whom are dedicated to important issues that affect our community and the world. 

Second, I have abilities and experiences that will add value to County Government. I earned an MBA from a top-tier business school and I have a record of executive level success in driving results through operations and people management, communications and marketing, advocacy, management accounting, and business development. The experiences earned while rising through the management ranks at The Washington Post and successfully serving as Vice President of Advertising will bring a useful skill set to the County Council. 

Third, I’m a bit of a wonk. I have a long-standing interest in public policy and current events. I’m drawn to County Government because of its relevance to our daily lives. This interest, coupled with my business background and my experience as a mother raising young children in Los Alamos, disposes and equips me to be a Councilor who can create opportunities and solve problems for Los Alamos County. If elected, I’ll focus on the issues, dive into the details, and communicate extensively with members of the community. I want to help our County leadership team move our community forward so that we can retain the people who make Los Alamos special; and so that we can attract the next generation of contributors to our community.
