What can we learn about the Summer Swan constellation? How are astronomers able to tackle the unsolved questions about space? The Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) has a planetarium show about the celestial objects that form Cygnus, the summer swan, at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20 and will show the family-friendly full-dome film We are Astronomers at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 21 and 22.
The planetarium, located at the Los Alamos Nature Center, projects the night sky and specially-designed films on a 180-degree dome.
The constellation Cygnus contains a bi-colored, double star, the Veil nebula, and other beautiful stars. At 7 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 13, local astronomers will reveal the fascinating aspects of these stars and others that make up the sky’s summer swan.
We are Astronomers, a family-friendly film that connects us to the evolution of the Universe and explores the secrets of our cosmic chemistry, will play in the planetariumat 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 21 and 22. This exciting film reveals the global collaboration, technology, and dedication required to answer the unresolved questions of the Universe.
The Los Alamos Nature Center will be open regular hours this month: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays as well as 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays. The nature center is open late on Tuesdays, until 8 p.m., closed Thursdays for regular maintenance.
