COMMUNITY News:

Cindy Richard is a teacher at Chamisa and director with Atomic City Children’s Theatre. She has written and directed a 40-minute play called “The Wrong Side of the Door.”

Inspired by C.S. Lewis’s writings about Heaven, “The Wrong Side of the Door” is a spiritual drama (with many comic moments) about Mason, a young boy who is trying to enjoy a week at summer camp with his friends (brothers Will and Alan) while still working through the grief of losing his sister Izzy to a cycling accident two months earlier.  To everyone’s shock, Izzy herself joins them on a mission from Heaven, though no one can figure out what that mission might be.  It isn’t until a friend’s life is at stake that Mason believes Izzy’s message of hope, and both of them discover a renewed sense of purpose — for this life and the life beyond death.

Admission to “The Wrong Side of the Door” is free.

Four local churches are hosting performances:
  • Friday, Aug. 8 at 7 p.m. at White Rock Baptist Church
  • Monday, Aug. 11 at 6 p.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church (on the back lawn)
  • Saturday, Aug. 16 at 7 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints in White Rock
  • Sunday, Aug. 17 at 1 p.m. at Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church
Four local kids star in the show. Carter Haag, 10, plays Mason, Emma Raven, 10, plays Izzy, Ryan Rushton, 10, plays Alan and Ethan Rushton, 12, plays Will. The three boys participated in last year’s Narnia production and have stage experience with Atomic City Children’s Theatre.

Editor’s Note: This is an indepemdent production and not affiliated with ACCT or LAPS. Richard will make the script and a film version of the play available to church youth leaders who might wish to use the content to spark discussions.
