The Los Alamos Police Department (LAPD) responded at 4:12 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4 to a residence in the Denver Steels area after receiving 9-1-1 calls related to a victim of a gunshot wound. (Note: This incident is unrelated to a previous “shots fired” call LAPD responded to Wednesday at a separate residence within the Denver Steels area.)
Police officers located two individuals with gunshot wounds. Los Alamos Fire Department Medics arrived to render aid.
Both individuals succumbed to their wounds and died at the scene.
LAPD’s Criminal Investigations Section has initiated a criminal investigation into the incident.
The identities of the persons involved will not be released at this time until all next of kin notifications have been made.
“The Los Alamos Police Department wants the community to know that there is not a current danger to the public related to this incident,” Deputy Police Chief Oliver Morris said. “While we understand that this is a tragedy for our community we are dedicated to investigate all aspects of this incident and will provide further information at the appropriate time. We also want to extend our deepest condolences to the family and provide any assistance necessary during this tragedy.”
