United Church News:

The Gomez Renteria family home is just one of three being built last week by members of the Mexico Mission crew.

Teams of adults and youth from the United Church of Los Alamos and the Unitarian Universalist Church, spent their spring break in Puerto Penasco, Mexico, building homes for the poor.

The team travels and stays together, working on all three homes throughout the week. They also follow a study guide, this year based on Mr. Rogers Neighborhood. By the end of the week, after concrete day, framing day, roofing day and stucco day, a blessing and formal turn over of keys, the family own their own two room home with a locking front door.

The family is told that the house is a gift from Jesus Christ and they owe those who built and gave it to them nothing in return.

The Gomez Renteria family consists of wife Elvira Rose and husband Julian, a builder. The couple live on just $83 a week. The second family has three member, a mother, father and 10-year-old son and they also make $83 a week. The third family is a mother and daughter who make $149 total each week and are working to pay off the land that the home is being built upon.
