UNM Graduate Helene Susanna Chavez To Travel Abroad To Peru

COMMUNITY News: 

University of New Mexico graduate Helene Susanna Chavez was selected to travel abroad with a group of students to Cusco, Peru Exploring global maternal child health. With a heavy itinerary that includes:

  • Childhood Anemia Campaign at a preschool
  • Psych-prophylaxis workshop with pregnant mothers in hospitals
  • Post-natal care and breast feeding in Peru
  • Mental health of mothers and children, management of postpartum depression
  • Prenatal care and the importance of health during pregnancy
  • The students will get to dress up as clowns, pass out balloons, stickers, bubbles and chalk from the US to preschoolers in Cusco, Peru
  • Teach songs and parts of the body and play games with school children
  • Learn about Medicinal herb teas at Delco abroad school.

Helene is a 2021 graduate student of Los Alamos High School. She will graduate from UNM with a major in Population Health, minor in Maternal Child Health and Concentration in Pre-Physician Assistant. She is the daughter of Frances Anchondo & Jeffery Corwon.
