UNM-LA News:

Whether you work for a large corporation or a small business, you are bound to experience conflict with a co-worker at some point in your life.

An upcoming class at UNM-LA called Conflict Resolution in the Workplace will help you turn conflict into a positive experience and create new opportunities in your work environment. The five-week course will meet 10-11:20 a.m., Mondays and Wednesdays, Oct. 15 through Nov. 12, on the UNM-LA campus. Local businesswoman and UNM-LA instructor Laura Loy will teach the course.

At the conclusion of the class, students will be able to understand their own reaction to a difficult person and/or behavior; explore their own attitude and reactions to difficult people and situations; devise alternative coping strategies for some of the more common difficult personalities, problem, behaviors and situations; and practice healthier responses to problem people and behaviors in the workplace.

The course can be taken either as a for-credit course for registered students, or through UNM-LA’s Community Education program. The cost to participate through Community Education is $125. To register for the class or for more information, visit https:////losalamos.unm.edu/community-education, call Eileen Gallegos at 505.662.0346 or email her at commed@unm.edu. For specific questions about the class, email the instructor at lloy@unm.edu.

She has experience working for both large and small organizations, for-profit and non-profit, and in both business-to-business and business-to-consumer environments. Loy has worked in cross-cultural business environments in Latin America and Asia. In addition to teaching in the Business Department at UNM-LA, Loy is in charge of marketing and communications for the Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC), and she is a local business owner. Loy’s approach to teaching is focused on real-world examples based on her own experience, and providing students with knowledge and skills they can apply to their own lives.
