The University of New Mexico-Los Alamos (UNM-LA) will be offering a workshop in Beginning Fiction Writing, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2 in room 610 on the UNM-LA campus.
The workshop is geared toward those who want to write their own short story or novel, but are not quite sure how to get started.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to learn the elements of good fiction including plot and characterization,” UNM-LA Community Education Director Eva Artschwager said.
Participants will complete practice exercises aimed at stimulating creative juices while helping them find their unique fictional voice. Students who have begun a short story or novel, are encouraged to bring the first 10 pages with them for review.
Sandra Toro, a published author of numerous books, articles and reviews who has taught classes in programs across the country will teach the workshop. Toro has also served as a coordinator for various writing workshops, including the Southwest Writers Conference.
The cost of the workshop is $75 per person and attendees should bring a brown bag lunch and beverage.
