UNM-Los Alamos Fine Arts And Art Studio Program Invites Community To ‘Embrace The Arts’ Tuesday Dec. 5

UNM-LA News:

In a celebration of creativity and community engagement, the UNM-Los Alamos (UNM-LA) Fine Arts and Art Studio Program proudly presents the UNM-LA Fine Arts and Art Studio Student/Faculty Show and Open House. This event marks the beginning of a series designed to foster community interaction, providing a unique opportunity for residents to explore the vibrant arts program at UNM-LA.

The highlight of the event will be the showcasing of exceptional works by both students and faculty. Student pieces, curated by the artists themselves, will be available for purchase, with proceeds directly benefiting the talented contributors. Faculty works will be featured in a silent auction, contributing to the overall fundraising efforts for the Art Studio program at UNM-LA.

This initiative serves to open a window into the dynamic arts scene at UNM-LA, offering community members a chance to witness the depth of talent within the program. It also presents a significant fundraising opportunity to support the continued growth and development of UNM-LA’s Arts program.

A distinctive feature of the event is the experiential learning opportunity it provides for art students. “This event provides experiential learning opportunities for all of our art students in that they are curating the show themselves, getting to learn how to curate their own works, write their artist statements, etc., and learning how to market their work,” said Dr. Peninah Wolpo, Program Coordinator for Fine Arts and Humanities at UNM-LA. “It also gives our art faculty a chance to give back to the program as well, as their donated pieces on silent auction will bring money back into the arts program.”

The UNM-LA Fine Arts and Art Studio Program also extends an invitation to explore the noteworthy Music Appreciation and Piano courses, exemplified through a captivating musical performance by Haewon Yang, who will present a short talk and musical performance of the timeless piece “Embraceable You”.

The community is invited to gather Dec. 5 in room 230 at UNM-LA for artistic expression, community connections, and a shared appreciation for the arts. The Open Gallery is 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the Reception, Silent Auction, and musical performance by Haewon Yang is 5-7 p.m.

Come “Embrace the Arts with UNM-LA” and make this inaugural event a memorable celebration of creativity and collaboration.
