Urban Trail Phase I & II Multi-Use Trail Project Construction Activities: Week Of Feb. 12, 2024

COUNTY News:

Hasse Contracting Company Inc., under contract with Los Alamos County Public Works to construct the Urban Trail Phase I & II Multi-use Trail Project, will be continuing construction activities at three different locations downtown and off Canyon Road during the week of Feb. 12.

Weather permitting, areas impacted include:

  • Work Zone Area 1: Within the Fuller Lodge grounds adjacent to Central Avenue and heading north towards the Romero Cabin – Occasional brief flagger operations on Central Ave. and 19th St. for construction vehicles accessing the work site. Sidewalk closures within the Fuller Lodge grounds are in effect and pedestrian detour signage has been placed. The majority of the construction is complete in this area; however, it will remain closed until the weather allows for final cleanup and grass restoration.
  • Work Zone Area 2A: 20th Street from the Youth Activity Center driveway, north to the main access to 475 20th Street – A section of the southbound lane on 20th St. will be closed during work hours and traffic will be controlled by flaggers. The section of sidewalk within the work zone will be closed and pedestrian detour signage is in place. Access to all buildings will be maintained during construction. Pedestrian access to 475 20th St. will be via the brick walkway on the northeast corner of the building. Pedestrian access to the Youth Activity Center will be from the sidewalks to the south. It is expected that this section of sidewalk will be reopened early next week once the concrete has fully cured.
  • Work Zone Area 2B: 20th Street from Trinity Drive to the Ashley Pond Park parking lot driveway – A section of the southbound lane on 20th St. will be closed during work hours and traffic will be controlled by flaggers. The section of sidewalk within the work zone will be closed and pedestrian detour signage is in place. Ashley Pond Park parking lot will remain open during construction.
  • Work Zone Area 3: Within the wooded area by the Canyon Road Tennis CourtsThe tennis courts parking lot will be closed for the duration of the construction and utilized as a staging area by the contractor. The tennis court and wallboard are closed. Alternatives for tennis and wallboard can be found at Urban Park, Myrtle Tennis/Pickleball Courts, Piñon Park, and Barranca Mesa Park. No traffic or pedestrian impacts are anticipated at this time. Activities will include construction of the piers for the precast boardwalk along the east and north sides of the work area.
  • Work Zone Area 4: Within the Fuller Lodge grounds starting at the Romero Cabin and continuing north to Nectar Street – Occasional brief flagger operations on 19th St. for construction vehicles accessing the work site. Sidewalk closures within the Fuller Lodge grounds are in effect and pedestrian detour signage is in place. The last remaining section of trail in this area adjacent to the Ancient Puebloan Ruins is scheduled to begin Feb. 21.
  • Work Zone Area 5: Peach and Ponderosa streets – The section of Peach Street between Nectar and Ponderosa streets will be closed with traffic detoured to 19th St. On Ponderosa, two lanes of traffic will be maintained with occasional flagger operations for construction vehicle access to the work area.

Motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians are advised to use caution around construction activities and avoid entering the work zones. Construction hours are planned from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Weekend work may be necessary if construction activities during the week are impacted by weather.
