Walking Stick Clings To Screen Door In Pajarito Acres

A Walking Stick is spotted clinging to the screen door Monday on the porch of a residence in Pajarito Acres. This group of Stick insects (Diapheromera femorata) contains about 600 species; 16 of these are natives of America – all grotesque insects with slim green or brown sticklike bodies, and slender legs, which are delicate and easily broken. Some varieties, when they lose a leg, promptly grow another, slightly smaller … When approached they remain motionless and thus often escape detection. They feed on various leaves.
