Town of Red River News:

RED RIVER – The Town of Red River has announced the inclusion of the Wall of Honor as a significant part of this year’s Mayfest in the Mountains celebration over Memorial Day weekend.

Originally known as Faces of the Fallen, the Wall of Honor stands as a poignant visual tribute to every serviceman or woman who tragically lost their lives during the current conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The project originated in 2003 when Alicia Tallman, a student at Milwaukie High School, created the display as her senior project. It later became a labor of love for her sister, Kelly Tallman, who has since dedicated herself to updating and maintaining the exhibit. Each student involved in this meaningful project has poured their heart and soul into ensuring that each fallen hero is meticulously honored and remembered.

Honoring the sacrifices made by military heroes is not confined to just a few specific days of the year. For Gold Star families, the memory of their loved ones lost in battle is an everyday reality, with an empty chair at the dinner table serving as a heartbreaking reminder every night.

The opening ceremony for the Wall of Honor 8 a.m. Friday, May 24 at the Red River Conference Center. The display will be accessible to the public 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. May 24-26 and again 8-10:30 a.m. Monday, May 27.

“We are honored to collaborate with the New Mexico Tourism Department in sponsoring the Wall of Honor as an integral part of this year’s Mayfest in the Mountains celebration,” Red River Mayor Linda Calhoun said. “We invite everyone to join us in paying tribute to our fallen heroes and their families.”
