White Rock Senior Center Offers Dance Lessons

WRSC News:

WHY DANCE?
  • Greatly reduces risk of dementia
  • Lowers blood pressure and cholesterol levels
  • Increases mobility without joint damage
  • Increases balance control and centering
  • Increases bone mass and muscle
  • Aids in effort to lose weight
  • Eases levels of depression

Monday, July 10, 2-4 p.m., the White Rock Senior Center will begin offering social dancing lessons for seniors on Monday afternoons. The classes will be held in the Activity Building  in the Los Alamos County Complex.

Our participants will enjoy a no-pressure atmospher in air-conditioned comfort, on a dance floor that can’t be beat. Taking a dance class will  start your week off with some fun, adding confidence, friendship and exercise into your daily routine.

The class will be taught by Donna Howell, a retired science professor who has taught social dancing and historic dances for 25 years. She also produces a weekly dance music program on Santa Fe Public Radio (KSFR).

Donna offers us many dance choices to include contra dancing, waltz, swing, polka or country two-step. The class will run in 4 week terms with 1 hour and 30 minute class per week. Because we will be  building skills it would be advised to commit to the four weeks (preferably not a drop in class. Time for optional free dancing and practice will be available at the end of class). There will be a recommended donation of $5 or each class with a six person minimum. Leads get their first class free!

Email wrsc@losalamoseniorcenter.com or call 505.672.2034 with your preference of dance so we can get the music and moves lined up to help you have fun, make friends and improve your health.

Thank you for your attention. See you on the dance floor.
